Broadcast camera offers Film Quality
Achieve cinematic quality for broadcast with a cutting-edge 6K sensor paired with Blackmagic’s generation 5 color science, bringing the same advanced imaging technology found in digital film cameras to broadcasting. The 6K sensor, with its impressive 6144 x 3456 resolution, offers versatility for both broadcast and digital film projects. When paired with B4 lenses, it provides a 4K crop for Ultra HD broadcast, while switching to PL or EF lens mounts unlocks the full 6K resolution for digital film production. Boasting 13 stops of dynamic range, the camera delivers richer blacks, brighter whites, and exceptional color grading capabilities. This innovation marks a transformative leap in broadcast image quality, merging the worlds of cinema and broadcasting.
Outstanding Low Light Capabilities
The new URSA Broadcast delivers remarkable performance in low-light conditions, allowing you to shoot in ambient light or even under moonlight. In advanced cameras, ISO measures the image sensor’s sensitivity to light. The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 offers a gain range from -12dB (100 ISO) to +36dB (25,600 ISO), ensuring minimal grain and noise while preserving the sensor’s full dynamic range. The primary native ISO of 400 is perfect for studio lighting, while the secondary high base ISO of 3200 excels in dimly lit settings. Gain adjustments can be made via a camera switch, the LCD menu, or remotely using the SDI remote camera control protocol.
B4 Broadcast Lens Mount
The URSA Broadcast G2 is equipped with a B4 broadcast lens mount, designed to perfectly align with the camera’s sensor. This mount supports both modern Ultra HD lenses and more affordable HD lenses, many of which offer resolutions exceeding standard HD, delivering excellent quality at a lower cost. A key advantage of B4 lenses is their par-focal design, which maintains focus while zooming, eliminating the need for constant focus adjustments and speeding up your workflow. The camera also provides full electronic control over focus, iris, and zoom, either directly from the camera or remotely. Additionally, the lens mount can be swapped for alternatives like PL or EF, offering flexibility for different shooting needs.
Built-in Optical ND Filters
The URSA Broadcast G2 is equipped with high-quality neutral density (ND) filters, allowing you to quickly reduce the amount of light entering the camera. These filters, available in ¼, 1/16th, and 1/64th stop options, are precisely engineered to align with the camera’s image sensor and color science, delivering enhanced latitude and improved color accuracy. This enables greater flexibility in adjusting aperture and shutter angle across a variety of shooting conditions. Additionally, the integrated IR filters ensure even filtration of both optical and infrared wavelengths, preventing IR contamination. The filter status can be conveniently displayed on the LCD in multiple formats, such as fractions, numbers, or stop reduction values.
Ordinary Media and File Formats
The URSA Broadcast is compatible with standard file formats used across broadcast systems and editing software. It supports recording in ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes 422, saved as QuickTime files. The upgraded Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 model also enables recording in H.265, offering highly compressed files (60:1 to 285:1 ratios) while maintaining 10-bit broadcast quality. Additionally, it supports Blackmagic RAW, an innovative format designed to retain the full quality of the camera’s sensor data. This versatility ensures a wide range of file formats suitable for any workflow.
Dual Media Slots for Double Storage
The URSA Broadcast G2 features dual CFast 2.0 and dual SD/UHS-II card recorders, allowing you to select the media that suits your needs. Both media types are affordable, widely available, and commonly found in computer and camera stores. With dual media slots, the camera supports uninterrupted recording—when one card fills up, recording seamlessly switches to the next, enabling you to replace the full card without stopping. This setup provides the speed required to capture high-quality ProRes and H.265 video formats, even in Ultra HD at high frame rates. As a result, the URSA Broadcast G2 integrates effortlessly into existing broadcast systems. Additionally, it supports recording 12-bit Blackmagic RAW cinema files for advanced workflows.
