Sony PXW-Z300 Overview
High-Performance UHD 4K60 Capture
Packed with broadcast-friendly features, Sony’s PXW-Z300 3-CMOS XDCAM Camcorder uses a 3-CMOS 1/2″-type sensor to capture up to UHD 4K60 video. It features advanced AI autofocus, improved network functions, video authentication, a high-bright, touchscreen LCD side V-mount, flexible LCD arm, HEVC proxies, and SRT streaming.
Agile News and Production Workflows
Features such as digital signature embedding for authenticity confirmation, efficient file transfer and streaming, and cloud connectivity enable fast, agile news and production workflows.
4K Exmor R CMOS Sensors and BIONZ XR Processor
The PXW-Z300’s BIONZ XR image processor works with the three 4K Exmor R CMOS sensors in real time to capture finely detailed, lifelike images with excellent color reproduction, deep depth of field, and very low noise.
17x Zoom Lens
The 17x zoom lens provides a 30.3 to 515mm (35mm equivalent) range with a constant f/1.9 maximum aperture. A digital extender provides 2x, 3x, or 4x magnification in HD and 1.5x magnification in UHD 4K. The independent focus, iris, and zoom rings let you quickly make manual adjustments without needing to take your eye away from the viewfinder. You can even switch between autofocus and fully manual focus by sliding the focus ring forward or back.
Advanced AI Processing Unit for Autofocus
A dedicated AI processing unit provides advanced subject recognition autofocus for the PXW-Z300. The AF can recognize subjects when they’re facing away from the camera, wearing a mask, are at a far distance or in the shade, or are backlit. Use the auto composition feature to keep your human subjects centered in the frame.
Optical Image Stabilization
Built-in OIS (optical image stabilization) helps to minimize any blurring or camera shake when shooting handheld.
Look Matching
The PXW-Z300 supports S-Cinetone, ITU709, and 709tone looks presets for shooting in SDR (BT.709), plus HLG Live, HLG Mild, and HLG Natural as presets for HDR (HLG) for easy color matching with other Sony cameras. It also supports custom 3D LUT import for creating your own unique looks.
Versatile Recording and Format Options
- Dual SD card slots, Picture Cache buffering, Interval Recording, and Slow & Quick motion provide versatile capture options.
- Multiple recording formats include UHD 4K and HD at 24 to 60p and 50 and 60i HD selections.
- MXF recording in MPEG HD422 is supplemented by XAVC Intra, XAVC Long, and proxy MP4 options.
Touchscreen LCD with Flexible Arm
The high-bright touchscreen LCD monitor is mounted on a flexible arm for more comfortable viewing. You can face the monitor forward for vlogging-style viewing, align it with the optical axis of the lens, or move it forward for easy shoulder-mount viewing. A magnifier function lets you enlarge the menu screen at selectable levels.
Side Accessory V-Mount
The integrated side V-mount provides a handy spot for attaching devices like a separate PDT-FP1 portable data transmitter, audio receiver, battery, or smartphone. This V-mount also incorporates a 1/4″-20 screw adapter.
Wireless Monitoring and Remote Control
Integrated 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi lets you check your frame before capture, monitor your shot, and control the camera using the free Monitor & Control app for smartphones and tablets.
Variable ND Filter
The PXW-Z300’s electronically variable ND filter enables on-the-fly exposure adjustments from 1/4 to 1/128 ND without having to change the aperture on the lens or add an external filter. An automatic ND function maintains an optimum exposure when quickly moving between interiors and exteriors.
Comprehensive Connectivity
Multiple connectivity options include up to 12G-SDI output, switchable timecode in/out, genlock input, and reference output. The PXW-Z300’s interface includes HDMI, USB-C, LAN, and remote ports, plus a connector for an optional handgrip.
Video Authentication
The upcoming video authentication function will use C2PA compliance to ensure the credibility of video footage used in news gathering and field reporting.
NOTE: This feature will only be available in select countries and regions.
4-Channel Audio
A multi-interface port and XLR inputs let you capture up to four channels of audio with automatic and dial-based manual level control for each channel.
Network Connectivity
The PXW-Z300 supports quick, simple network configuration for managing files from capture to delivery. It uses Wi-Fi or a wired LAN connection with support for RJ45, 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-T, and 10BASE-T.
Live Streaming
Use the PXW-Z300 to stream directly to compatible live-streaming and video-sharing sites via Wi-Fi or a hardwired connection. RTMP/RTMPS and SRT protocols make it easy for a single operator to efficiently manage everything from recording to distribution.
Optional paid apps and technologies:
- Connect the camera to the PDT-FP1 Portable Data Transmitter (sold separately) for stable live streaming with QoS using the Creators’ app for Enterprise to C3 Portal (paid).
- Use the M2 Live cloud-based switching system for multicamera live production in select countries and regions.
Simple File Transfers
Upload full-resolution or proxy video clips to a cloud or FTP server straight from the PXW-Z300’s memory card. Once the destination is registered in the camera, files are transferred automatically when recording stops.
Power Options
Use widely available Sony BP-U series batteries or the locking USB-C PD (power delivery) port with a 100W or higher AC adapter to power the PXW-Z300 camera.
