The ATEM 1 M/E Constellation UHD 4K Live Production Switcher enhances its predecessor’s switcher design by incorporating UHD 4K capabilities and 12G-SDI ports. Tailored for robust live event UHD 4K switching, this unit accommodates 10 individual 12G-SDI inputs compatible with 12G/3G/HD-SDI signals, feeding them to six 12G-SDI outputs or webcam USB-C output. Additionally, the switcher offers a Multiview output with up to 16 routable windows, showcasing inputs, keyed video, graphics, stills from the media pool, and the program output. Each input links to a built-in Fairlight audio mixer that supports up to 28 audio channels.

The switcher incorporates a reference video input, and each input is equipped with a frame synchronizer, frame rate converter, and format converter. This functionality enables seamless integration of various cameras, formats, cameras lacking genlock, and video input from computer sources. Upstream and downstream keyers and effects are available, all executed live and in real time without the need for rendering. Control options include the integrated front panel, optional Blackmagic ATEM panels, or downloadable control software.

The ATEM Constellation UHD 4K offers an extensive array of broadcast-quality native transitions such as mix, dip, wipe, and more. These transitions can be tailored in the system control menus, allowing adjustments for border color, width, position, direction, and more. Additionally, the switcher incorporates a robust digital video effects processor for DVE transitions, enabling dynamic effects like squeezing the current picture offscreen to reveal a new video underneath or creating graphic wipe transitions. Professional Communication System

ATEM Constellation is equipped with integrated talkback functionality to facilitate seamless collaboration among crew members. Talkback support includes a 5-pin XLR headset connector and a rear-mounted RJ12 connector, ensuring compatibility with industry-standard talkback systems like ClearCom or RTS. Users have full control over talkback, including program and engineering loops, sidetone control to monitor the headset microphone, and program mix. Additionally, ATEM Constellation UHD 4K supports SDI talkback, utilizing SDI channels 15 and 16 for bidirectional communication with Blackmagic Design cameras, with the option to utilize channels 13 and 14 for engineering talkback. Moreover, the talkback mic can be integrated into the program audio for voiceovers.

Internal Media Repository

The integrated media pool stores broadcast-quality RGBA graphics and animations for instant playback via two or four media players. These media players are seamlessly integrated as additional input sources on the ATEM Constellation UHD 4K, eliminating the need for extra SDI inputs for graphics. The media pool is equipped to hold graphics for use with the media players, with the 1 M/E model capable of storing 20 stills and 200 frame animations. Media management is simplified through the ATEM Software Control or direct downloading from Photoshop using the ATEM Photoshop plug-in.

The ATEM chroma keyer boasts a color picker feature for automatic generation of key parameters by sampling background colors. Users can fine-tune edge and flare adjustments with precise controls, complemented by a foreground color corrector for seamless blending with the background layer. The keyer supports pattern and DVE keying applications and provides eight Advanced Keyers with the 2 M/E model. Each M/E row features four upstream keyers, enabling virtual set construction. Utilizing a keyer per camera allows for cohesive compositions over a custom background in a 4-camera virtual set. Additionally, macros can be configured to switch cameras and load the correct background into the players.

Multi-Rate 12G-SDI Connectivity of ATEM 1 M/E Constellation

Featuring up to 10 multi-rate 12G-SDI connections, the ATEM 1 M/E Constellation UHD 4K offers compatibility with a wide range of video sources. Supporting UHD and HD video standards, including 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 2160p formats, users can seamlessly switch between formats to suit their production requirements. These inputs also support embedded audio, allowing for audio mixing from the inputs. Additionally, program outputs incorporate talkback, tally, and camera control information, facilitating connection of switcher outputs back to the camera for program return, control, and talkback functionalities.

Fairlight Audio Mixer Integration

All SDI inputs on the Constellation UHD 4K are linked to a built-in Fairlight audio mixer equipped with a 6-band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, noise gate, and expander. Audio is extracted from the SDI sources and routed to the internal mixer, supporting up to 156 input channels. The mixer further accommodates additional inputs for integrated analog sources or talkback microphones for voiceover capabilities. Audio control is managed through the ATEM Software Control or compatible Mackie panel.

ATEM Software Control Panel

Utilize the ATEM Software Control Panel to efficiently manage your Constellation unit via your personal computer. The software boasts a user-friendly switcher interface and parameter palettes for swift adjustments. Multiple users can connect to the switcher via Ethernet, enabling simultaneous collaboration on various aspects of your event. Moreover, the software grants access to camera control, audio mixing, media management, macro programming, and control of HyperDeck disk recorders. Users can save the switcher’s full state as XML files and back up media from the media pool. Compatible with macOS and Windows operating systems, the software ensures seamless control and operation.

The Constellation UHD 4K offers compatibility with three variants of the ATEM Advanced Panels. These panels are designed with industry-standard M/E-style layouts and incorporate built-in LCD screens. Featuring high-quality buttons with customizable illumination color, along with a DVE joystick and a T-bar fader, these panels ensure effortless control over your unit. Additionally, users can configure and activate macros as needed.

Each row of M/E buttons is equipped with integrated LCDs for dynamic input button labeling. The 1 M/E model comprises a single M/E row with 10 input buttons, while the 2 M/E model boasts 2 M/E rows with 20 input buttons. For extensive control capabilities, the expansive 4 M/E model includes four M/E rows with 40 input buttons per row, accompanied by four independent system control LCD screens.
